motorola barrage

Motorola and Verizon today announced the Motorola Barrage. An IPX7 water ingress protection model withstanding 30 minutes submerged in one meter of water

It is not often we see a new rough phone announced these days. Most new releases are designer deviced with touch screens.

The Nokia 5210 and Ericsson R310 are classics in this segment but these models are no longer available. It has been tough times for Motorolas mobile division lately. Nice to see them back in business again. I can't recall seing a rough clamshell before. The Barrage might be the first.

The Barrage specifications won't blow you out of your chair. But that is not the reason why you would buy this phone anyway.

Designed to be submersible for up to 30 minutes in one meter of water, it is constructed from chrome, glass, mesh and rubber – protecting it against blowing rain, humidity, solar radiation, high and low temperatures, blowing dust, salt fog, altitude, shock, vibration and transit drop.

Free Blog Traffic - The Pulling Power Of Articles

Trouble is most people either haven't got the budget or are plain stubborn and don't want to put their hand in their pocket. Hey, I can dig that - me either! Why pay if you don't have too, right?

So we've got our target, free blog traffic, but how are we going to achieve it?

Probably the single most successful way is article marketing. Write an article like this, submit it to the right websites, people read it and visit your blog. Voila! Lots of lovely blog traffic at zero cost.

That's the principle, and done properly it works very well. There are a few tricks of the trade, like there are with anything else, but you don't need to be an English professor to make this work for your blog. Look at this article. Anything special about the writing? Nope, I'm just an ordinary Joe with an average education. A few hundred words (hopefully well chosen) and it should trundle off into the depths of the internet and do its work.

There are no big secrets about making article marketing work but it'll probably take a while to get good at it. The good news is that even of you're not so hot to start off with it costs you nothing so any free blog traffic you get is better than none!

Actually there is one "secret", you have to keep doing it. If you write and submit ten articles you'll certainly get some traffic to your blog, but then you'll see how it follows that to get more traffic you need to write more articles. A hundred articles is going to bring you many more people than ten.

So do you have to be tied to the keyboard eight hours a day? Doesn't sound like a lot of fun to me!

No, you don't. I actually know one guy who spends about four hours a day at his computer and writes ten articles a day, pretty much every day. He just loves writing articles and he has a six-figure income as a result. A hundred grand a year plus, for four hours work a day isn't bad, but it's only one approach. There are plenty of others.

If you can only write two or three articles a week you'll still get that important free blog traffic, it'll just take you a bit longer. If you're smart, you'll do other things as well to make the most of that traffic and increase your blog profits.

Blogging Builds Better Businesses!

Store owner? Whether that's a traditional "high-street" store or one on the internet, blogging will draw more people to your products, and that can only equal more sales.

Service provider? There's no easier way to let people know what you're doing and how to get in touch with you. You can present your services online and slash the wasted mileage you often have to do.

Hotelier, gite or guest house owner? A blog telling people what's on in your area will undoubtedly bring you more visitors. Share your local knowledge and people will choose you above your competition.

Specialists in any field can share their knowledge, pre-qualify new clients, communicate, test ideas...

But, you might say, can't you do all that through other methods? Isn't that what standard websites do?

Well there's always more than one way to accomplish any task, but when you're in business, or looking to start a business, you want efficient and cost-effective - and there's nothing more efficient and cost-effective than business blogging.

For a start, your entry costs are tiny. The traditional way for off-line business to get known locally would normally include a yellow pages advert. Starting your blog will cost way less than that and the reach isn't just local, it's worldwide.

It's also relatively easy to do. You don't want to be wrestling with website design programs for weeks - you've got better things to do. With blogging you don't have to. If you can bash at the keyboard with a couple of fingers and do a bit of copy and paste you'll be fine! A little knowledge of html will come in useful somewhere down the line but you can get your blog up and running and drawing in the crowds first and then worry about fine tuning later.

Your business blog can be anything you need it to be. It can support your existing business or it can be a business in its own right and an additional revenue stream. It won't cost the earth and it needn't tie you to your computer day and night. Like anything in business it will take the consistent application of effort but if all you've got to give it is a couple of hours a week that's still enough to make a noticeable difference in a surprisingly short space of time.

More effort will bring greater reward. It's one of the big advantages of professional blogging that each and every thing you do improves your business.

The effort you put in will reward you with clients who feel that they know you. They'll have more confidence in you which, frankly, is more likely to result in them parting with their cash. However you slice it, blogging build better businesses!

Blog Security - Vital Protection For Blogs

It's also near impossible to do unless you're a full-time code geek and you watch your blog like a hawk 24/7. Not practical.

So what can you do? Well the first thing is to be aware of it. Don't think it won't happen to you, take steps to protect yourself. When you choose a password, don't make it your name, for example, and don't share it. You'd be surprised how many people email passwords around or post them on forums when they're asking for help. If you absolutely have to do that to fix a problem, change it to a new one right after it's sorted out.

Sadly that won't stop them all. Something else you can do is always make sure your Wordpress version and all it's plug-ins are up to date. It won't take you many minutes and it's worth it. Sometimes an update is for function but sometimes it's to fix a security flaw. Have a glance every time you log in. If there's an update, just do it.

After all that some hackers will still get through. To be brutally honest, protection for blogs could be seen as a bit of a myth. An impossible goal. If someone really wants in, bang, you'll be hacked.

The blog security tips above will help. Then, if you're unfortunate enough to have it happen, you need to be able to recover quickly. To do that you need to make sure your blog is regularly backed up. That way you can simply strip out the hacked files and replace it with a recent copy of your blog. Automated plug-ins can back up certain files for you and you can probably get access to your hosting to do a full back up there as well.

A couple of things. Just check to make sure your blog is working properly before you back up, and in case you accidentally back up a hacked version, always keep several archived back-ups. Finally, do it regularly. You can have auto back-ups as frequently as every hour - which is probably overkill, but at least once a week is good.

Protection for blogs is a question of taking simple, sensible precautions. I hope it doesn't happen but your blog security may be compromised one day. Make sure you can recover quickly and carry on your business.

3 Steps To Profitable Business Blogging

If you want to make money blogging there are 3 steps in which you'll need to pay close attention to when you create a blog.

1) Layout

Choose a layout or template that best reflects you or the blog theme. When you first create a blog make sure your site is easy to navigate. It is recommended that you also make readily available to your readers your most popular posts. Put them into a separate category or tab for easy access.
This is your best work so be proud of it and allow these posts to continue to work for you!

The popularity of blogging is based upon the ability for visitors to interact with the blog owner thru commenting. Be sure you encourage this and make it easy for visitors to do.

2) Fresh Quality Content

Aside from traffic this area is what sustains the life of your blog. If you don't believe that, take a break from posting on your blog for a while and watch the subscriber based decrease. With that said POST FREQUENTLY to keep both readers and the search engines coming back for more fresh content?

Your post obviously must be related to the overall theme or purpose on which you chose to blog. Make sure your posts stimulate or reward your readers in some fashion such as useful information or entertaining insights.

Be sure the content you post reflects your feelings or personality. Remember there's only one you so unleash yourself and let your personality hang out. This is one factor that will distinguish your blog from the rest.

3) Advertising on Your Blog

With a steady flow of traffic and a good loyal following now in place this is the time to introduce a little creative advertising.

If your blog is popular enough you can possibly rent out space to advertisers related to your niche. Take caution not to place too many advertisements on your site. This will disrupt the original flow and feel of your blog that readers have become accustom to.

The 'suggestion' of a product within the body of one of your post is another approach you can use to make money blogging. Be sure the product, like any creative advertising you may use, is related to what you're blogging on and can be useful to your readers.

With reader loyalty you have also gained their trust and faith in you as an authority on the subject matter of your blog. Be careful not to abuse this by overly frequent sales pitches or offering inappropriate or inferior products. REMEMBER your objective is to supply helpful content FIRST. This is why these readers subscribed to begin with.

As you can see business blogging involves a delicate mix between the trust of your readers and your promotional efforts. Always remember to serve your readers FIRST with the good content they've come to expect. Your promotional marketing efforts should always assume a lower profile!

Getting Your Blog Listed High In Search Results

Blogging is a ton of fun, but it can get boring fast if no one comes to your site! Getting your blog ranked high in search results for your main key words must be your objective to get traffic. Remember that this will take a while, but totally do-able.
You're going to need to learn about Search Engine Optimization to make this a reality. The very basics of this is knowing which keywords to focus on. These are what people are searching for in the search engines, and how they might find your blog. Some of these keywords get a lot more searches than others get, so it's in your best interest to eventually choose the ones that do get searched for often. Keep in mind that these are often more competitive than ones that are searched for less -- but you might get lucky.
You need to focus your efforts on these keywords for now. Choose a big one that will take longer to reach, as well as three to four additional terms you're going to try and rank for. These should all be similar! Then, you're going to include these keywords in each blog post you make in various combinations. Always focus your posts on one term, and include the others only if they make sense. As you focus on these similar keywords the search engines will start to rank you more highly because your blog is tightly focused and relevant to what you're targeting.
It's not always that easy, however. A lot of ranking decisions are based on how many backlinks you have coming into your website. You need to do what you can to get relevant links that point to your homepage and your individual posts. You can get these links by writing articles to submit to directories, writing guest blog posts on other high traffic blogs, using social networking sites, using social bookmarking sites, and buying links (be very careful with this tactic.)
One of the best ways to get your blog to the top of the search engines is to show consistent, relevant postings over time. Google seems to favor domains that have had some time to age and that are going to be a good bet for their visitors. Remember --- Google's (and other engine's) goal is to provide the best experience possible for the people who search with them. If your blog is going to be a good match for your search terms it will be easier for you to rank and stay there.
Lastly, just be original. Don't try to be like anyone else, but you. Make what you write fun and informative and more people will visit. THe best link is one that comes from someone else who says that your content is excellent. Never forget to write for PEOPLE first and then search engines second.
